Program Overview
Mission & Impact
We believe that Black joy is a form of resistance and that centering joy, especially for youth who have experienced trauma, is both healing and necessary.
Rooted in the values of joy, resilience, and community, Black Joy Summer Camp is designed to empower young people to embrace their heritage, cultivate positive self-esteem, and thrive in every area of their lives--mentally, emotionally, creatively. Our program is designed to serve as a restorative and empowering space for young people to reclaim their voices and build a future rooted in pride, agency, and connection.
Program Goals
Foster creativity and self-expression through culturally grounded artistic experiences.
Support emotional wellness with tools for self-care, coping, and personal resilience.
Increase youth community investment through collaborative community development projects.
Develop youth leadership by cultivating confidence, communication, and decision-making skills through mentorship and experiential learning.
Program Objectives
Self-Expression & Creativity
Campers engage in hands-on creative experiences—including music, visual art, dance, and storytelling—that allow them to explore identity, affirm their heritage, and express themselves in empowering ways.
Wellness & Resilience
Through guided workshops and activities, the program centers mental health and holistic wellness. Youth learn strategies for self-care, coping, and emotional resilience that support long-term well-being.
Community Building
Through collaborative projects, group outings, and team-building exercises, campers will build meaningful relationships with peers, mentors and community members.
Leadership Development
Campers are encouraged to step into leadership roles through peer to peer mentorship, skill-building exercises, and decision-making opportunities. These experiences cultivate self-confidence and prepare youth to lead within their communities.
