Adultism is often a major problem in schools and youth programs and we define it as the
systematic mistreatment and disrespect of young
people where adult allies share power. To raise up the voices of young
people and demonstrate to
organizations how to do the same
with actionable tools we created this workshop. This individualized assessment workshop is meant to build your base of knowledge
on the value of including Youth
Power in your organization
and how to implement youth-power practices to dismantle
adultism and share power. We will explore strategies to foster genuine partnerships with young people, enabling them to become active participants in decision-making processes. By the end of this training, participants will have an introduction to the knowledge and tools needed to build authentic youth coalitions, ensuring that our future leaders are not just seen, but heard, respected, and actively involved in shaping the world around them.
This workshop is an introduction to what adultism is
and what youth-led/youth-centered means.
An organizational self-assessment
tool with a set of metrics and tips
organized across three levels to
support power-sharing between
young people and adults.
A scorecard for documenting
the current assessment for your
organization
as it currently operates.
An action template for prioritizing
tangible goals for where you would
like your organization to be and how
you are going to get there. Recommended
resources and discussion questions
for further learning and reflection are also included. Join us in making sure we build a movement of organizations honoring the power of young people.
